Toray to Bolster Large-Tow Carbon Fiber Production |

Toray Industries, Inc. informed that U.S. subsidiary Zoltek Companies, Inc. will bolster its large-tow carbon fiber (with more than 40,000 filaments) production capacity in 2023. The upgrade will cost around USD$130 million (around CNY14 billion). A Zoltek facility in Jalisco, Mexico, will lift its annual capacity around 54%, to more than 20,000 tons, boosting the combined annual capacity of that company’s Mexican and Hungarian operations to about 35,000 metric tons. Hive Composites Expands Testing Facilities |

Hive Composites, based in Loughborough UK, has recently expanded its testing capability. Recent additions to the test facility include a unique Zwick universal test machine, specialist composite lighting & utility pole testing rigs and a facility for short term burst testing of composite pipes. The new Zwick has a unique frame size with a maximum test area of 1100mm wide x 2000mm high, a maximum load capacity of 150kN and is equipped with extensometry. Alberta Innovates and the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) have selected 12 projects to participate in Phase II of the Carbon Fiber Grand Challenge (CFGC).
