The Cologne-based company Bio-Fed, a branch of Akro-Plastic GmbH, Niederzissen, has expanded its portfolio to include ISCC PLUS and REDcert²-certified compounds of the M-Vera brand, which are manufactured from biomass-balanced PP. Raw material sources for the PP are vegetable oil and fat waste, which is used in different processes, e.g. B. in the food industry.
ISCC PLUS and REDcert² are sustainability certification systems for bio-based and recycled materials in the chemical industry. The certification guarantees the traceability of the sustainable flow of materials along the entire value chain. Since the value creation process of products in the chemical industry is often very complex, the mass balance approach is used for this. Certified products are manufactured using sustainable raw material sources (biomass or fossil-based recyclate) in order to replace an equivalent amount of fossil resources in the production process.
The new products run under the names M-Vera PPH and M-Vera PPC at Bio-Fed. The material can be used by processors as a drop-in solution without having to adjust the process parameters in production. The material alternative with a reduced carbon footprint offers consistent properties and is suitable for a wide range of applications. They range from injection-molded thin-walled packaging and transparent containers to BOPP films and sophisticated fiber applications in the meltblown process. The high strength of the biomass-balanced polypropylene enables the production of fleece inserts with extremely thin, tear-resistant filaments. For example, FFP2 masks with fleece inserts made of PP can now be produced using this material on a sustainable raw material basis.
In addition to the compounds, Bio-Fed offers suitable masterbatches in cooperation with its sister company AF-Color. These new color masterbatches are called AF-CirColor and AF-CirCarbon, in line with their field of application in the circular economy. The portfolio is also supplemented by additive masterbatches AF-CirComplex.
