OUR EDUCATION COMMITTEE'S SECOND WORKPLACE VISIT
Following the protocol we signed with GEBKİM Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (MTAL), and before starting composite applications in the newly established Composite Application Workshop, we initiated a second training program to educate and inform the teachers who will be involved in these studies about composite materials. As previously planned, this program involved a visit to the Şişecam Science, Technology and Design Center of Türkiye Şişe ve Cam Fabrikaları A.Ş., the parent company of our member Şişecam Elyaf Sanayii A.Ş.
On January 20, 2021, a group of nine chemistry teachers, led by Mr. Hakan Çelik, the principal of GEBKİM MTAL, visited the research center of Şişecam Elyaf Sanayii A.Ş. in Çayırova. The visit, which included two groups, focused on glass fiber, a key reinforcing material in the composite industry. Mr. Ali Çamurdan, Marketing and Sales Manager of Şişecam Elyaf, and Ms. Sultan Telli, Director and Specialist at the Science and Technology Center, hosted the group. They provided detailed information about the activities of Türkiye Şişe ve Cam Fabrikaları A.Ş. and Şişecam Elyaf Sanayii A.Ş., and shared technical information regarding the production, performance, and applications of glass fiber reinforcement materials. Examples of glass fiber reinforcement materials in felt, multi-ended roving, single-ended roving, chopped, and woven forms were presented.
The visit concluded with the delegation being briefed on the various research, product development, and glass technology studies being conducted at the Şişecam Science, Technology, and Design Center, a world-class research hub.
The second phase of our planned basic training on composite raw materials, focusing on glass fiber reinforcement materials, was supported by technical information notes shared with the teachers.
