2019 Year-End and 2020 Year-End Reviews

PAGDER (Plastics Manufacturers Association)'s year-end assessments for 2019 and 2020 are presented below.

Our association has released a press release containing its assessments regarding the end of 2019 and its forecasts for 2020. The plastics sector grew by %3.9% in 2019 through both exports and inventory production.

As you know, the sector, which contracted by approximately %6 in 2018, started to increase production again in 2019. We expect the sector growth of %3.9 this year to be dependent on exports and inventory production.

The sector began to recover in the last two quarters of this year from the currency shock that was particularly felt in the second half of 2018. Although year-end production for 2019 is still below the levels of 2017 or the first half of 2018, it has emerged from the low point seen in the second half of 2018. In this context, production is expected to close the year with an increase of %3.9 in terms of quantity compared to 2018. However, a decrease of %3.1 in terms of value is expected in terms of the size of the sector. This is due to the falling raw material prices as a result of the decline in oil prices.
