Regarding Cyber Fraud Cases in Mexico.

The Ministry of Trade, in its letter dated June 16, 2020, numbered 68460249-951.01.04, referring to a letter received from our Commercial Attaché in Mexico City, stated that an increase has been observed in cyber fraud cases in Mexico where individuals residing in Mexico intercept and monitor commercial correspondence conducted via email accounts of Turkish companies or their overseas customers, and then request payment to be made to a given account number. It was also reported that in Mexico, it is not mandatory for the recipient name in the payment order to match the official account name or account number in bank account payments, and that this loophole in the legislation is causing hardship for our companies.
The attached document states that companies should manage their electronic communication systems in a way that protects them against "hacking" and cyberattacks, and that account information should be confirmed with the customer via telephone before the payment process is completed.
