European Union (EU) European Green Deal (EGD)

As is known, the European Union (EU) conducted a "feedback process" between March 4, 2020 and April 1, 2020 to determine the content of the border carbon adjustment mechanism, considered one of the key policy instruments of the European Green Deal (EGD), and to address its effects together with all stakeholders who may be affected.

In this context, taking into account the opinions conveyed to the Ministry of Trade by our relevant private sector representatives and public institutions, a national position has been prepared and submitted to the European Commission. A summary information note on the important points included in our national position is attached for their use.

As part of the work being carried out by the European Commission on the implementation of a carbon border adjustment mechanism, stakeholders are expected to complete the attached questionnaire by October 28, 2020, within the framework of the public consultation process that has been initiated.

It is considered important that our country's sectors, both directly and through sector/user sector organizations with which they cooperate closely in the EU, reflect their views as much as possible in these processes regarding the design of the border carbon adjustment mechanism.

In this context, organizations wishing to respond to the survey should participate in the survey. https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/12228-Carbon-Border-Adjustment-Mechanism/public-consultation They can be accessed via this link.

Furthermore, in addition to the points included in the survey questions regarding our country's position, if there are any issues that you deem beneficial to convey to the Commission, please share them with our Ministry so that we can forward them to the European Commission for consideration.

Please submit your information and any matters that you deem beneficial to be forwarded to the Ministry of Trade within the scope of the survey to Ms. Eda Güneysu of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey no later than September 30, 2020.eda.guneysu@tobb.org.tr) Please send it to [email address].
