HUKD – Announcement April 8, 2020

The following announcement was received from our member, the Aviation and Space Cluster Association, on April 8, 2020.
The British Embassy, in the context of the fight against COVID-19, stated that they are seeking suppliers worldwide for the necessary medical supplies and equipment; that they understand the current restrictions imposed by the Turkish Ministry of Health on the export of these materials; and that they wish to identify and work with industry players who could potentially supply them should these restrictions be lifted in the future. The details of their requests are attached as an attachment.
Dear Turkish Industry Representatives,
While everyone, everywhere is mobilizing to tackle the spread of Covid-19 all around the world, we as UK Department for International Trade in Turkey is supporting the effort to respond to COVID-19. In particular, our work on international procurement of medical supplies puts us front and center of the Government's main effort. Our global network is working to identify sourcing opportunities from all parts of the world. As in many countries the major items needed are ventilators, personal protective equipment (gloves, masks and gowns etc), and medicines.
In order to secure the national supplies, the Turkish Health Ministry has very recently imposed restrictions on the export of critical medical equipment including the respiratory masks, surgical gowns, alcohol hand sanitizers of all types, and eye protection equipment. While we completely understand and respect these decisions, we still believe that it would be useful to notify Turkish industry about the specifications of the medical equipment needed in the UK and to identify the suppliers who has the relevant capabilities for future reference once restrictions lifted for commercial procurement or to be used to inform authorities for a possibility of government to government procurement aiming to support the potential cooperation between UK and Turkey.
As more and more defense and aerospace companies are mobilizing their sources to meet the increasing demands of the medical sector and have a substantial manufacturing capacity and engineering know how, we would like to include defense industry network to this effort.
Please find attached the specifications for PPEs- Personal Protective Equipments and please refer to the UK government website as following for ventilators.
If your company is supplier of one of those equipments, please contact Berrak Alkan Yilmaz (berrak.yilmaz@fco.gov.uk) from British Embassy Ankara.
Sincerely,
