Regarding the Obligation to Register with the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK).
As you know, businesses with more than 50 employees annually or with an annual financial statement total exceeding 25 million TL are required to register with the Data Controllers Registry by October 1, 2020, in accordance with Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data.
However, the Personal Data Protection Authority has determined that as of October 1, 2020, there are data controllers who have not yet applied for registration with the Data Controllers Registry Information System (VERBIS) or who have applied but have not completed their notification.
In this context, the Authority announced to the public that, considering that some data controllers were unable to fulfill their registration obligation in the Registry due to practical, technical or legal impossibilities in the fight against COVID-19, these data controllers were notified in writing and were required to fulfill their registration obligation within the period notified to them by the Board in the said letter.
NOTE: VERBİS registration process is still ongoing.
